The movie was really just a snippet of what this book has to offer. Nope, I can't recommend this book at this time. To get her to even consider reading these we started reading a few chapters per night before bed. It's a very light-hearted book, and can be read quickly if you gloss over all the "thee, thou, dost" language, but that is part of what, for me, makes it so charming. The characters and plot weren't interesting enough. These are issues unknown to the programmer in some other area of application. Where do these destructive emotions (craving, anger and delusion, known in Buddhism as the three poisons) come from.
